ANALYSIS OF SEMI-TRAILER CHASSIS SUBJECTED TO TORSION
Methods are proposed for determining the torsional stiffness of semi-trailer chassis comprising either open or closed section cross-members and open section main members. The methods are shown to give good agreement with measured values and are extended to the prediction of stresses and displacements in cross-members; again good agreement with measured values is obtained. Finally stress concentration in the joints of chassis having open section cross-members are discussed together with the effect of welds on these stress concentrations.
