ACCIDENT MIGRATION - TRUE OR FALSE

The author comments on the paper "Accident Migration after Remedial Treatment at Accident "Blackspots" by Boyle, AJ and Wright, CC. He questions whether the evidence produced is sufficient to show that accident migration is a real effect. He considers changes in accident numbers according to visibility of treatment and shows that the migration effect is still apparently present for blackspot treatments that are invisible to motorists. The author suggests that the statistical analysis is suspect and he agrees with Boyle and Wright that it would be useful for further research to be carried out in an area in which blackspots are further apart.
