NEW LIGHTING CRITERIA FOR RESIDENTIAL AREAS
This paper defines and quantifies the various requirements that need to be satisfied by residential lighting as opposed to road lighting. The emphasis throughout is placed firmly on the safety and social aspects of such lighting. Relations between the criteria important for the different groups in residential areas and the following lighting parameters are derived: detection of obstacles and minimum horizontal illuminance and illuminance uniformity; identification of persons and the semicylindrical illuminance at a height of 1.5 m; pleasantness: modeling and the ratio of vertical to semicylindrical illuminance; glare and light color aspect or color temperature. A table gives the recommended values for these lighting parameters for the purely residential street.
