WORLD'S FIRST FOR FORD WITH DI DIESEL
The world's first naturally-aspirated high-speed direct injection (DI) diesel engine has been announced by Ford Europe. With DI technology, the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber instead of into a pre-combustion area as in indirect injection. It improves thermal efficiency by about 15%. The new 2.5-L DI diesel develops its maximum power at 4000 rpm and is claimed to offer fuel savings of up to 24% on short wheelbase models and 20% on the longer ones.
