0.05% OR 0.08%. LETTER TO THE EDITOR

This "Letter to the Editor" reports on analysis of the effect of introducing the 0.05g/100 mL blood alcohol level (BAL) in New South Wales, Australia, as from December 15, 1980. It includes a table that shows that in 1981, significantly fewer male car drivers aged 17 to 20 were admitted to the hospital than in the preceding year. This finding highlights the value of differential blood alcohol levels, and supports a recommendation that probationary license holders should not be permitted to drive after ingestion of alcohol.
