PRESTRESSED STEEL STRUCTURES: EXAMPLE OF APPLICATION TO THE STRENGTHENING OF A BRIDGE
STRUTTURE IN ACCIAIO PRESOLLECITATE: ESEMPIO DI APPLICAZIONE AL RINFORZO DI UN PONTE
Post tensioning techniques are most often used in prestressed concrete structures. However, because of the favourable cost/performance ratio of prestressing steels, the technique has also been applied on a small scale to steel structures. In this paper a post tensioning technique for a truss bridge of older construction is illustrated. The method enables the economic strengthening of old bridges, without extended interruption to traffic. (TRRL)
