INFLUENCE OF THE SPRING CHARACTERISTICS AND TIRE EQUIPMENT OF HEAVY VEHICLES ON THE DETERIORATION OF THE ROAD

INVERKAN AV TUNGA FORDONS FJAEDRINGSEGENSKAPER OCH DAECKUTRUSTNING PAA VAEGENS NEDBRYTNING

The Swedish Road and Traffic Institute has carried out a literature study aiming at elucidating the influence of the suspension properties, the bogie layout and tyre equipment of heavy goods vehicles on the magnitude of the dynamic axle loads applied on rough roads. These dynamic axle loads have great influence on the deterioration of the road. The study has shown that the damping properties of the vehicle are most important but that the roll damping of the body, the pitch damping of the bogie and the vertical spring characteristics of the tyre also are very important. However, the spring characteristics of the vehicle body are less important. (Author/TRRL)
