PERMISSIBLE DEPTH OF WHEEL TRACKING FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF TRAFFIC SAFETY

DOZVOLJENA DUBINA KOLOTRAGA SA ASPEKTA BEZBEDNOSTI SAOBRACAJA

The paper discusses the depth of wheel tracks from the point of view of aquaplaning. Details are given of investigations into the influence of the thickness of the film of water on the pavement, decrease in the coefficient of friction when braking, occurrence of aquaplaning depending on the thickness of the water film and driving speed, and of the results of water thickness measurement depending on the depth of wheel tracks and pavement crossfall. Based on the presented data, values are given for limit thickness of the water film for a given driving speed when aquaplaning occurs and for maximum permissible depths of wheel tracks depending on the pavement crossfall and driving speed.
