MULTI-STOREY CAR PARK--VEHICLE GUIDANCE SYSTEM
The multi-storey car parks were designed to serve short-stay shoppers. They were built on land that was made available from the demolition of old buildings within the central area. The scheme and size of the land offered made it difficult to design a multi-storey car park that permitted each parking space to be viewed by the motorist in the normal transition from floor to floor. A system was required to inform the motorist on what floor parking space is available to cut down on the unnecessary circulatory movement within the car park. A microprocessor is installed on each level and is electrically connected to the detector packs associated with inductive loops buried in the ramps connected to the level.
