COMPREHENSIVE TRANSPORT SERVICES TO A MAJOR TRIP GENERATOR. SESSION 8
Experience over the past ten years in the development of transport services for the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee, has indicated that major steps can be taken to better serve the travel needs of a major trip generator. Through a combined approach using improved transit and a more restrictive parking policy, transit use has increased by a factor of four and auto use was cut in half. This resulted in a decline in on-street parking pressure as well as reductions in congestion. Parking and transit, when used in close coordination, are seen to provide effective means of coping with access problems to major trip generators.
