RESEARCH INTO THE STRUCTURAL PERFORMANCE OF TWO CONCRETE SETT PAVEMENTS UNDER DYNAMIC PLATE BEARING TESTS

ONDERZOEK NAAR HET STRUCTUREEL GEDRAG VAN TWEE BETONSTRAATSTEENVERHARDINGEN ONDER DYNAMISCHE PLAATBELASTING

In order to be able to plan maintenance of concrete sett pavements, research into the elastic and permanent deformation under repeated loading has been carried out. Dynamic plate bearing tests were performed on two experimental sections of sett pavement having thicknesses of 80 and 120 mm. A detailed description of tests to determine deflection, permanent deformation and dynamic soil stresses is given. It is concluded that the experimental section of pavement with a thickness of 120 mm continues to act as a plate after more than one million loadings but that the load spreading properties of the 80 mm pavement gradually decrease after 200000 loadings and become non-existent after 350000 loadings.
