UTILIZATION OF THE BEND TEST FOR DETERMINING STRESS-STRAIN CURVES
Experimental verification of the utilization of the bend test for determining stress-strain curves for tension and compression is presented in this report. Stress-strain curves are determined from independently performed tension, compression, and bend tests of AISI 4340 steel specimens (heat treated to three nominal yield strength levels--125,000, 175,000, and 225,000 psi, respectively, at 0.2 percent offset) and compared. Fair agreement is found to exist among the curves up to the 2 percent strain limit of each test. (Author)
