GREEN WAVES FOR CYCLISTS AND MOPED RIDERS?
GROENE GOLVEN VOOR FIETSERS EN BROMFIETSERS?
A study into the feasibility of green waves for cyclists and moped-riders in traffic control. The authors have concentrated on anticipating behaviour in traffic induced by the presence of a couple of traffic lights. Platoon diffusion was also considered. Models were devised for natural and anticipating riding behaviour, the latter for sections of 90 metres and 90-170 metres. Platoon diffusion is such that green times of the second traffic light have to be extended beyond reality to establish a green wave. For sections of more than 100 metres the level of service drops quickly. Green waves for moped-riders and cyclists together are impossible. (Author/TRRL)
