BRIDGE OPERATION ON SHIPS: COMPILATION AND SYSTEMIZATION OF BRIDGE FUNCTIONS
This report gives an account of a compilation and systematization of the bridge functions which are used when handling a ship. The purpose is to give a background for achieving increased reliability, increased manoeuverability and simplified control. The beginning of the report describes the methods used. This includes functional diagrams in which systems and functions are divided into data collection, processing and results. The functions are grouped into the three main functions: selection of route; tracking of route; surveillance. The end of the first chapter presents an outline sketch of a one-man bridge. To achieve a detailed draft, further studies must be made such as frequency studies. Although this is not within the scope of this project it has been considered valuable to compile, as a draft, the viewpoints which have been brought forward. The following chapters contain a compilation and systematization of information, environment and performance. Short descriptions of the relevant systems are given. Ranges of measurement and accuracy are covered in connection with the chapter on information. Mechanical, physical, chemical and electrical factors and their influence on equipment and people are dealt with in the chapter on environment. In Swedish, summary in English.
