JOB SEARCH TRIP DISTRIBUTION IN RURAL AREAS
A job search trip distribution model is developed based on a disaggregate binary logit structure. The proposed model includes a set of economic and transportation level-of-service variables, and can aid in evaluating transportation and economic policies which seek to improve service area unemployment. Transportation and socioeconomic data from four Minnesota towns are used for model testing and validation. Travel conditions for the period of expected employment are found to influence destination choice. For all communities studied the expected length of employment is the strongest determinant of choice. The proposed specification predicts job search trip distribution up to 76% correctly and is not strongly influenced by the location of application.
