BUILDING OF CUT AND COVER RAILWAY TUNNELS
UNTER VERKEHR ERSTELLTE EISENBAHNTUNNEL IN OFFENER BAUWEISE
Referring to two examples taken from the new Mannheim-Stuttgart line, the author describes difficulties that can arise with cut and cover tunnel building at interconnection points with other communications infrastructures. In the first example the new line goes through a tunnel to cross the A6 Federal motorway. Because of the heavy-load traffic 2 lanes had to be permanently available in both directions. In the second case the new line crosses the existing Mannheim-Karlsruhe line and forms a junction with it. Here again, traffic must not be disrupted.
