COMPARISON OF TWO METHODS FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF SWELLING PRESSURE
Two testing methods for the measurement of swelling pressure of expansive soils were conducted. These are the constant volume method and the oedometer method. Identical samples were subjected to the two testing methods. Results obtained show that the oedometer method gives higher swelling pressure values than the constant volume method. Plasticity index, swell per cent and dry density were correlated to the two testing methods. (Author/TRRL)
