ELASTIC LATERAL FLEXURAL- TORSION BUCKLING OF BEAMS WITH A LIPPED CHANNEL CROSS SECTION
The experimental lateral buckling behaviour of five cold- formed, simply-supported, prismatic beams of lipped- channel section is described. The theory for predicting the critical load at which lateral buckling occurs is developed and covers the case of a midspan point load applied in the shear centre plane. The approximate design equations are developed from the theory and a comparison is made between the design approach and the experimental results. (Author/TRRL)
