ANALYSIS OF LAYERED ELASTIC- VISCOELASTIC MATERIALS
A method is presented for determining the behaviour of materials which consist of layers having either elastic or viscoelastic properties. The governing equations are simplified by use of Hankel transforms and this means that a very economical solution may be obtained by using numerical methods. A "marching" type procedure is used to find the solution at any time. Examples are chosen from the soil mechanics field and solutions are presented for the stresses and strains which develop with time in elastic-viscoelastic layered materials loaded with a strip surface loading.
