DETERMINISTIC VERSUS STATISTICAL IDENTIFICATION OF STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS USING FSS TEST SIGNAL

Test data were obtained for a typical structural component subjected to a fast swept sinusoidal (fss) excitation, and comparative frequency domain results obtained using both deterministic and statistical identification procedures. A quantitative comparison of resonant frequencies and damping loss factors is afforded by applying a least-squares curve- fitting technique to the derived mobility data. Particular attention is directed to the problem of calibration of results in the case of the statistical approach. The accuracy of the separate methods is assessed by comparing, for a shock loading condition, the actual time domain response with that predicted using the respective mathematical models.
