PROBABILITIES OF CORRELATED FAILURE MODES
The evaluation of reasonable upper bounds to the probability of failure of complex structural systems requires evaluation of the intersection of the failure sets of pairs of failure modes. A method is described for computing the probability of this intersection for the case of a specific but realistic type of failure criteria. Some discussion is also given on the relationship between these probabilities and the bounds derived by Ditlevsen. (Author/TRRL)
