FIRST ATTEMPT AT PRECAST BOX CULVERTS A WINNER FOR CHANDLER MATERIALS

Chandler Materials Company, a veteran Tulsa, Oklahoma producer of concrete block and pipe, recently reported its successful entry into a previously untried area-production of precast concrete box culvert sections. To obtain different wall thicknesses, the MAMCO system uses a wall spacer that also fastens into the four sides. The capability to change wall thicknesses made it possible for Chandler to produce culvert sections conforming to both ASTM C-789 and C-850 with a minimum of form equipment. Cores, headers, and pallets of box culvert forms from MAMCO also are adjustable. If future road widening requires lengthening the culvert, the tongue and groove joint configuration of precast units makes line extension and easy operation, in comparison with extending a cast-in-place culvert.
