ANALYSIS OF ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS IN HYDERABAD
The paper analyses the traffic accidents occurred during the period 1970-1982 within the City Limits. The accident data obtained from the police authorities shows the total number of fatal and injury accidents alongwith the number of persons killed and injured in each year. However, the police information is silent regarding the further details of the accidents. Statistical methods have been used to find out if any worthwhile measures were adopted during the last decade to check the accidents in the City. The results of these statistical tests show that no such efforts worth any significance were ever made by the law enforcing authorities. The paper concludes that there is little support to be obtained from the available data. This adversely affect the engineering profession to use their knowledge effectively in identifying problems and designing counter measures. (Author)
