INFLUENCE OF OZONE ON STRUCTURAL BEHAVIOUR OF ELASTOMERIC BRIDGE BEARINGS
With the growing use of elastomeric bearings in bridges and the development in establishing testing facilities for such bearings, it has become necessary to examine relevance of the conventional tests for ozone resistance in the case of bridge bearings, as well as to review the results of the ozone resistance tests carried out earlier. The standard accelerated ozone test is recommended for a wide variety of rubber products apart from bridge bearings. It is possible that the standard test might have been evolved keeping other applications of rubber in focus and even before the application to bridge bearings became common. It is hence worth examining whether any modification to the standard accelerated test is necessary and whether any additional data on influencing parameters or the percentage of ozone content is called for.
