COMPARATIVE ANALYSES OF THE VISCOSITY OF A BITUMEN

Twelve laboratories of the Technical Committee 56 MHM "Hydro-carbon Materials" carried out precise determination of viscosity measurements performed with the following types of viscometers (falling ball, sliding plate, outflow, capillary, rotational) with the testing temperature range 30 - 160 degrees C. Only one type of bitumen (penetration 25 C 93 mm/10) has been analyzed. According to this investigation the precision of the capillary viscometer is slightly higher than that of the rotational one which precision decreases with increasing test temperature in the range 60-135 C. The measured precisions at 60, 100 nad 135 C either with capillary or rotational viscometers appear reasonable in comparison with precision criteria given in the literature. (TRRL)
