ROAD TRAFFIC SAFETY AND ACCIDENT PREVENTION IN THE COMMUNITY OF VINKOVCI

ANALIZA STANJA SIGURNOSTI CESTOVNOG PROMETA I PREVENCIJA PROMETNIH NESRECA NA PODRUCJU OPCINE VINKOVCI

This paper deals with the control and regulation of traffic as part of the traffic safety problem. It discusses the measures taken to control and prevent road accidents. The growth in the number of vehicles and the development of the road network in the town of Vinkovci are mentioned. A five-year period is studied. The analysis is based on the interpretation of several representative indicators of road traffic safety, by which degree of safety attained in the studied five-year period can be estimated. The time of the occurrence of traffic accidents is analysed (daily, weekly annual distributions of accidents) together with the types of accident. The author proposes some preventive measures which appear to be the most urgent. (TRRL)
