HOW GOOD ARE OUR INDIAN CEMENTS
As portland cement is a mixture of calcareous and argillaceous materials burnt at a temperature of about 1500 deg C, finely pulverised and cooled to ambient temperature, it is evident that the quality of the cement manufactured is a function of chemical ingredients present in the raw materials, the temperature of burning, extent and quality of pulverisation and the cooling gradient. Variations in particle size, texture and colour are visibly perceptible in samples of cement available from the factory. The results are discussed of chemical analysis tests carried out on cement samples, suspected of being of inferior quality, to corroborate field, physical and strength tests. (TRRL)
