EFFECT OF STIFFENER RESTRAINT ON PLATE STABILITY
This paper considers the elastic stability of a plate-stiffener combination loaded under uniform axial compression. Two types of system are considered. The first refers to a stiffener made up of flat-plate components which, together with the main plate distortion at buckling; the rotational interaction between components for such systems is discussed for both rigid and flexible connections. The second reinforcement type consists of stiffeners of arbitrary cross-section when the latter does not distort at buckling; here the study concentrates on the relative effects of flexural and torsional rigidities, and, once again, both rigid and flexible connections are considered.
