A STUDY ON CREEP TESTING OF SHEET ASPHALT MIX AT FAILURE IN CREEP TEST

Rectangular specimens of sheet asphalt mixture were subjected to flexural creep test at different testing temperatures and creep loads. The data so collected were analysed for obtaining crack initiation time, establishing a relationship between creep load (w), rupture time (t) and testing temperature (t) and the permanent plastic deflection defined as the product of rate of deflection in steady state stage and rupture time. It was observed from this study that it is possible to find crack initiation time in creep by graphical means. Further a mathematical relationship based on equation of state is possible for relating three variables w, t and t. Based on permanent plastic deformation it is possible to predict creep rupture time if the rate in steady state stage is known. (Author/TRRL)
