AGT 100 AUTOMOTIVE GAS TURBINE
Using high-efficiency aerodynamic components and the high cycle temperature allowed by ceramic hot-section components, the AGT 100 is designed for a composite fuel economy of 42.5 mpg (18.1 km/L) in a 1985 Pontiac Phoenix. The material content of an engine is a vital concern in automotive production from a cost and strategic material viewpoint. In addition to high-temperature qualities, ceramics have the added features of light weight and no strategic material content. Tests are run on the engine and ceramic components. Instrumentation and test procedures are described.
