FREEWAY TRAFFIC MENAGEMENT ON HIGHWAY 401, TORONTO, CANADA
The area of Metropolitan Toronto, Ontario, and its surrounding communities, with a total population of about 3 million, is served by a network of 164 km of freeways. The Ontario Ministry of Transportation and Communications has embarked on a major program of implementing freeway traffic management systems in major urban areas. The benefit of such systems will be maximum utilization of existing roadway facilities in the least capital-intensive manner to accommodate increasing demand.
