FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF HIGHWAY SAFETY FEATURES
This notebook provides information regarding the safety performance requirements of highway safety features and their function. The objectives of this notebook are to: (1) Describe how the various highway safety features work and why they are used; (2) Identify the factors that will adversely affect the intended performance of each; and (3) Illustrate, through examples of good and bad installations, what field personnel should look for to identify safety problems in field installations. The notebook should be beneficial to construction, maintenance, and operations engineers and technicians responsible for selecting, installing and/or maintaining highway safety features or devices.
