ELECTROCHEMICAL HULL PROTECTION
The use of protectors and cathodic protection in practice in cargo and passenger ships revealed a number of shortcomings in the protection system; much work had to be undertaken to eliminate these. Improved systems of electro-chemical protection have effectively protected the underwater part of a ship's hull from corrosion, have helped to preserve the paintwork and--in the case of cathodic protection--have reduced marine growth on the hull. The positive results obtained from the use of electro-chemical protection of ships' hulls against corrosion emphasise the necessity for the extensive introduction of this means of protection, together with all its current, latest developments, in ships.
