PROGRESS REPORT ON MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS PERSONNEL

This report was prepared by the TRB Committee on Maintenance and Operations Personnel with the cooperation of the AASHTO Subcommittee on Maintenance. This report is the 40th in a series which began in 1944 and it retains its original format. This year, two major changes were instituted in the Monthly Salaries of Highway Personnel section of the report. In prior reports, the minimum, maximum and average salaries were denoted for each position listed. It was felt that the average salary statistic did not have any meaningful importance, and it was therefore eliminated. The second change is the elimination of the base year of 1944 in the comparison of salaries. The new base year is 1977. Personnel policies are covered, and definitions are given of maintenance and operations personnel titles. The maintenance and traffic operations personnel titles used by State Highway Departments are listed. The membership of the Joint TRB-AASHTO Project Committee on Maintenance and Operations Personnel (Committee A3C03) is included.
