A NOTE ON BLOCKAGE EFFECT

It has been found, both experimentally from wind-tunnel measurements and flow observations, and analytically, from potential-flow and boundary-layer calculations with the surface of the separation bubble replaced by a solid boundary, and also from a mathematical model of the wake, that the back pressure in the wake is very sensitive to the presence and spacing of channel walls. On the basis of these results an approximate formula is proposed as a blockage correction for viscous pressure drag associated with flow separation. (Author)
