CARPOOL STATIONS; PROPOSAL FOR THE LAYOUT OF CARPOOL STATIONS ALONG DUTCH MOTORWAYS

CARPOOLPUNTEN. VOORSTEL TOT INRICHTING VAN CARPOOLPUNTEN LANGS NEDERLANDSE WEGEN

Since the energy crisis in 1973 interest in car pooling has been increasing. During recent years it has been noticed that more and more cars belonging to car poolers were parked in the neighbourhood of access and exit roads of motorways. There seems to be a need for provision of car pool stations. By the absence of such provisions there may arise a danger for traffic safety. A study was made of the different possibilities for the location, layout and accessibility of such car pool stations along the Dutch road network and in particular along the motorways. Interviews were held and from their results recommendations are presented. (TRRL)
