ENERGY IMPACTS OF PROPOSED TRANSPORTATION PLANS AND PROJECTS. PROCEEDINGS OF A PANEL DISCUSSION, OCTOBER 23, 1979
To address the issue of transportation's role in energy conservation, a panel group was convened consisting of 11 members from Federal, state, and local transportation agencies, Federal and state energy offices, consulting firms, and a university. An edited transcript of the panel's discussion is presented, with professional/educational biographies of the participants, opening and closing statements by the panelists, and a summary of the discussion. The following issues were addressed: the nature of the transportation energy problem, the prospects for technological breakthroughs in vehicles and fuels, the response of transportation agencies, transportation alternatives which yield the greatest energy savings, methods for encouraging energy-efficient land use by transportation, and energy assessment techniques to compare transportation alternatives.
