The project objective and research approach are presented in an introductory chapter. Driving tasks and the associated demands on the driver of a two-wheeled motorized vehicle are examined, and capabilities and limitations of practical driver training are addressed. The integration of the driving portion into the overall course is discussed, and the structure of the driving portion, determination of learning goals, and testing are described. Guidelines are presented for the instructor on conducting the driving exercises within the following format: basic exercises with engine off; basic exercises with engine on; mid-term test; curve negotiation; braking; evasion and lane changing; recognition of, and coping with, hazards; final test; and individual practice. The students are divided into groups according to their driving experience. The overall course is designed to improve traffic-related knowledge, driving attitude, and practical driving skills.
