GEOMETRIC DESIGN OF ROUNDABOUTS
This departmental standard defines three types of roundabout for application to new and improved junctions on trunk roads. They have application for use on other roads. Requirements are defined in relation to the size of roundabouts, effect of approach speed, visibility, entry width, entry deflection and the circulatory carriageway. New requirements include the following main changes: method of specifying entry deflection, the previous distinction between small and conventional roundabouts has been dropped, the use of double roundabouts is encouraged, the maximum overall size of mini-roundabouts has been increased, and the visibility requirements have been modified and extended.
