PROBLEMS OF PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENTS IN ROAD DESIGNING

PROBLEMI CEMENTBETONSKE UTRDITVE VOZISC PRI RPOJEKTIRANJU CEST

The paper outlines the development of construction technology and discusses the use of portland cement concrete pavements in the world and especially in Yugoslavia with special emphasis on bearing capacity, durability and traffic safety. The elements which contribute to easier construction or better operation (microconcrete reinforced with various fibres, joints and superplasticizers), mix design as regards the physical properties of concrete, concrete production technology, and maintenance after construction are described. Existing local regulations for concrete construction are reviewed. The economic and operational advantages of concrete pavements compared to bituminous pavements are stressed. (TRRL)
