PARKING POLICY OF LOCAL AUTHORITIES
GEMEENTELIJK PARKEERBELEID
The parking problem is primarily a local problem. The national government should only provide juridicial and financial means for local parking policy. In the Netherlands local authorities pay for the provision of parking, but the national government receives the fines. Parking and other traffic faults are controlled by criminal law, which makes it very cumbersome to punish the 'crime'. It is almost impossible to make parking garages self financing. All these problems should be solved with the aid of the national government. (TRRL)
