STATE OF STRESS IN PART OF A CONCRETE SLAB OUTSIDE THE SHEAR REINFORCEMENT AT PUNCHING

The paper contains a test report and an analysis of stresses in a reinforced concrete slab supported by columns. The risk of punching outside the shear reinforcement is treated in detail. Compressive stresses in the radial direction were found in the slab. The radial compressive stresses in the concrete have a positive influence on the load-carrying capacity of the slab. The design shear stresses outside the shear reinforcement can be taken about 10% greater than those for beams. (Author/TRRL)
