FINAL REPORT OF THE "EMISSIONS, FUEL CONSUMPTION AND DRIVEABILITY" WORKING GROUP ON THE M-15 PROGRAMME
ABSCHLUSSBERICHT DES ARBEITSKREISES "EMISSION, VERBRAUCH, FAHRVERHALTEN" UBER DAS M-15 PROGRAM
This paper presents the results of exhaust emission, fuel consumption, and driveability tests, carried out on a fleet of about 1000 vehicles of German manfacture in practical operation, using a fuel blend of methanol and petrol (M-15). Regarding emissions, apart from a reduction of CO, there was little difference between m-15 and premium petrol. Fuel consumption to DIN 70030 was higher in keeping with the calorific value of M-15 but without a deterioration in efficiency occurring. The vehicles tested were sufficiently reliable for the temperatures prevailing in Berlin, but some showed deteriorations in performance at extreme temperatures compared with petrol vehicles. (TRRL)
