ALLOCATION OF ROAD TRACK COSTS 1983/84. UNITED KINGDOM

This is the seventh note published by the UK Department of Transport describing the process used in allocating road track costs. The general procedure is to estimate the expenditure by both central and local government on providing, maintaining and policing roads, to allocate this expenditure between road users according to the "responsibility" each type of user has for causing the expenditure and then to compare the costs which have been allocated with the motoring tax revenue (fuel duty and vehicle excise duty) collected from the users.
