DIFFUSION OF DRAG REDUCING POLYMERS IN A TURBULENT BOUNDARY LAYER
The diffusion of diluted drag reducing polymers and the effect of the diffusing polymers on the development of the boundary layer are analyzed. The analysis suggests that the diffusion rate is reduced together with the drag. However, in most practical situations the reduction in the diffusion rate is small. Polymers ejected near the wall will diffuse over the entire turbulent boundary layer within a distance of the order of 1000 boundary layer thicknesses. (Author)
