DYNAMICS OF A CABLE-TOWED-BODY SYSTEM
The study investigates the forces acting upon a cable-towed-body system and develops a digital computer simulation of its dynamics in a plane. The towed system that is discussed was excited by ship motions caused by deep-ocean waves. Equations of motion for the towed body are written and reduced to a set of ordinary differential equations having nonconstant coefficients. In order to effect solutions using numerical integration techniques, a method is developed that reduces the equations of motion so that cross-coupled hydrodynamic inertia terms can be included in a Runge-Kutta numerical integration scheme.
