ANALYSIS OF EQUIPMENT TO COMPLEMENT THE MOTOR-GRADER FOR ICE-SCARIFYING AND GRAVEL-SURFACE-GRADING JOBS

ISRIVNING OCH GRUSHYVLING KOMPLEMENT TILL VAEGHYVEL

The objective of the working team has been to perform an investigation to find equipment to be used as a complement to the motor-grader for ice-scarifying and gravel-surface-grading jobs. The investigation has included a market analysis concerning equipment, the setting up of a list of demands and the testing procedures with a report on the test results for some available equipment. The equipment is shown under the following main groups: group (1) equipment adapted for trucks, group (2) equipment adapted for wheel loaders and tractors, group (3) ice-milling machines. The test results indicate that it is difficult to achieve the capacity and quality of the motor-grader, with the tested equipment, on heavy duty jobs, but the equipment is well suited for lighter jobs. After having performed these tests, it has been possible to state that none of the tested products can replace the motor-grader, but they can be considered as complements for certain suitable road maintenance jobs.
