EFFECTS OF ETHANOL: I. ACUTE METABOLIC TOLERANCE AND ETHNIC DIFFERENCES
This study found an increase in alcohol clearance rate within a few hours for most subjects after a second dose of alcohol, a phenomenon termed acute metabolic tolerance to ethanol (AMTE), and reports on some ethnic differences in aspects of ethanol metabolism. The present data question the accuracy of standard methods of estimating the volume of distribution of alcohol and lead to the speculation that the alcohol clearance capacity of the liver is not perfectly correlated with body size, or lean body mass in human populations.
