APPRAISAL OF EXISTING MATERIAL AIMED AT TEACHING ROAD SAFETY
Experimental literature has been reviewed to establish the abilities of the child as a road user, and to delineate the strategies that may be successfully used by children to increase their safety on the roads. Traffic accidents involving children, and their behaviour in accidents have been studied. Children's behaviour in the non-accident situation has also been investigated. Methods of teaching road safety have been assessed in order to ascertain the most effective means of instruction. A number of recommendations for action and research are made. (Author/TRRL)
