A LIST OF LOW SKID RESISTANCE SECTIONS ON NATIONAL PRIMARY ROUTES (1983)

This report describes the presentation of the SCRIM results of skid resistance measurements carried out with the skid testing machine of An Foras. The compact format used shows information in a symbolic rather than graphical form. The present report, with a map inset and a scale of miles to assist in identification of each location, shows about four mile of road per page. A level of skid resistance of 0.4 (40 sfc-sideways force coefficient) is used as the critical level. It was decided that the minimum length of poor sections to be included would be approximately 200-300 metres. Attention is drawn to the effect of gradients which adversely affect the operation of heavy commercial vehicles. (TRRL)
